Darlene MacLeod  RN, BScN, DOMP

Darlene MacLeod, is a Registered Nurse and Osteopath, offering osteopathic treatment and care to individuals of all ages with any health concern.

Darlene graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing with her nursing diploma in 1976. While working in nursing she returned to school and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from St. Francis Xavier University in 1999. Darlene has more than 35 years of experience in general medicine and surgery, critical care, interventional medicine, research and health promotion. Darlene continues to practice her nursing while also practicing as an osteopath.

Darlene found her way to Osteopathy, following a personal experience with osteopathic treatment, from an injury while nursing. She has completed her osteopathic studies and research thesis (May 2015) with the Collége d’etudes Ostéopathiques-Halifax Campus, a 5 year academic and thesis (1-2 years)program. Her research thesis was entitled, “The Effect of Osteopathic Treatment in Acute Proximal Leg Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) to Reduce Pain and Swelling: A Pilot Study”.

Darlene is a member of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS), the Ontario Association of Osteopaths (OAO) and the Nova Scotia Association of Osteopaths (NSAO).

Darlene is able to combine her vast nursing experience with osteopathy to provide individuals with a personalized treatment.   She assesses clients from head to toe to determine the root cause of their concern.   She treats many different conditions (whiplash, neck pain, low back pain, TMJ, headaches, sinus issues, knee pain, shoulder pain, post-surgery etc.) while using a variety of different approaches such as muscle energy, myofascial release, cranio-sacral and many other osteopathic techniques. She has experience treating expectant mothers, newborns, seniors and all ages in between.

Darlene believes that is extremely important to find a balance with all things in life, so that we can maintain a healthy body and active lifestyle. She also believes that preventative care, before a problem arises, is a key component to maintaining a healthy state.
